I lived there 27 years and didnt sniff the refineries at all lived west, worked in CBD and Greenspoint and played golf up north, woodlands, Champions, Kingwood, Raveaux with no issues. Typical Dallas cheap shot at Houston, cant count how many Dallasites said something like "bet you are glad to move up here from Houston right?" Dallasites moving to Houston are greeted with "welcome" like a resident of any other city...
Moderator cut: orphaned I worked for an oil company there. I did live in West Houston but not north. My office was at Greenway Plaza. My friend who uses the Stinkadena line lived just outside the loop and then in Jersey Village, now lives in Memorial.

Re the summers, no doubt the heat-humidity combo in Houston and the Texas Gulf coast in general with it's prevailing salty sea breeze makes for an even more brutal summer than other parts of the state including North Texas.

personally while DFW weather is not perfect (Santa Barbara CA is my ideal of perfect weather)
and as long as my AC is working--I would choose DFW
Exaggerating much?

Houston is a little more humid than Dallas, true, but its also much warmer (5-20 degrees) warmer on average during the winter.

Right now its 61 degrees in Houston while its 51 degrees in Dallas.

Houston ranked 8th most polluted metro by the American Lung Association last year for ozone pollution while Dallas/Fort Worth ranked 12th.

Not exactly a drastic difference. Both are Texas' two most polluted large metros so its nothing to brag about.

The Houston people will jump on me but you can often smell the refineries in the midst of the humidity. I have a good friend who grew up in NW Houston who used to say, "you can smell Stinkadena (Pasadena) today".
BS

That would be a distance of over 30 miles away if he lived in Jersey Village & 40 miles away if he lived in Cypress!!!

I lived in NW Houston for 5 years & never smelt anything except pine trees & Papadeaux from my place.

Why are you only looking at O3? Dallas doesn't make the particle pollution list, Houston does.

You can check out AirNow.gov too. For 2010, Harris County had 27 unhealthy days for sensitive persons, Dallas County had 7. Tarrant had 14.

Who said anything about the winter? Did you read the thread title?

Assuming this is even accurate, humidity enhances the sense of smell thus you'd expect to be able to smell the smog much more easily in Houston since, as was already stated even by you, it's much more humid.

Houston Summers are intolerable. Dallas Summers, although they feel hotter, don't make you sweat nearly as much.

I've lived both places and posted above my view. Overall I will give DFW weather the nod though, both summers are terrible, but more nice fall and spring days in DFW. I am warm natured so the colder weather in winter doesnt bother me and winter in Dallas has some good weather too just more cold than Houston of course.

But the on topic of summers, its a tie with both too hot to enjoy for humans and pets.

BULL-S. I'm from NW Houston and you cannot smell the eastside refineries. Maybe that friend was just smelling their upper lip.

Dry heat gives me a headache. I prefer Houston's summers, but Dallas' autumn is more to my liking.
