The Cowboys won their very first game played there against the Patriots & lost their last game against the Ravens.

Not a happy ending.

Actually, the "large gaping hole in the roof," to quote you, was iconic in and of itself and was brought to the new Cowboys Stadium because it was always so well received. Texas Stadium received the same fanfare that Cowboys Stadium receives today in the 1970's. And like Texas Stadium, in 30 years or so everyone will hate Cowboys Stadium the same way they did Texas Stadium towards the end.

Losing to the Ravens has nothing to do with anything. Nothing. At. All. The Cowboys won 3 Superbowls playing in that stadium. Not exactly the fiasco you wish it was.

It may have been ugly, but it was STILL iconic.

Forget the roof. The sides of Texas Stadium just never looked "done" to me the way that the Astrodome and Superdome seems to be.

Never felt like I was not at a game before until I went to the new stadium. Felt antiseptic and gaudy. Rather have been at home! Nothing like seeing real football at hs stadiums and hearing a hs band! I,will take that any day.
