Can't believe Jake and Dorothy's is still open in Stephenville. Used to love their Wednesday night $1 hamburgers and waffle fries. The reason I said there used to be a Montana's in Stephenville is that I have not been there in a long time, and I wasn't sure if it was still there or not. I did love it. And I love Jake and Dorothy's. My wife and I are going to have to journey there again soon and check out both--and the Hard 8.

I have been to Abilene many times, and I agree on the Dixie Pig, great breakfast. Also another great home-cooked breakfast place is Sirloin 66 in nearby Anson TX.
Whenever I am in Midland TX, I go to LaBodega (mexican) at least once.
For steaks, I like Noreta's in Santa Anna TX, and Her's Steakhouse in Rochester TX.
Mary's Cafe in Strawn TX is suppose to have other great foods, but it is hard for me to get past the CFS.
I didn't eat lunch, I am getting HUNGRY!

Best place...
Mel's (yes, Mel's) in Tomball, Texas. Really good, always packed. Hard to find. Once you get there, you will wonder why you didn't try harder to find it .

Send me one of those Mary's CFS!
Come to Mel's if you ever get to Tomball, and make sure you get the green beans with their Chicken Fried Steak (it looks a lot like Mary's!). Never thought I'd rave about green beans, but they are fresh and done with the bacon etc.

Good coffee shops with music
I'm a new member. Just moved to Canton, Tx. And would like to know if there are any coffee shops with live music anywhere around here or Terrell or Tyler?
A good friend of mine's family owns Maggie's on 64 near Edom on the way to Tyler. They just re-opened on the weekends. Food is comfy food--really great 1/2 lb. burgers.
Having lived in Tomball area, I am familiar with Mel's. Y'all are right on there. Great food.

AND ANOTHER GREAT PLACE IN CANTON!!
For awesome tender steaks and to die for chicken fried steak and REAL mashed potatoes and HOMEMADE rolls try Easley Market and Grill. Down towards the High School and right by Curves (Might need that!)

Can't believe it took 7 pages for someone to mention Jake and Dorothy's in Stephenville. That place is OLD SCHOOL and great. And ridiculously cheap.
Some other suggestions:
Waco: second the Viteks mention. Also Heitmillers in Bellmead/North Waco for huge CFS.
Country Inn in Somerville if it's still open. 3 lb steaks and ginormous CFS.
Cousin's BBQ in Ft Worth. Multi locations, family owned. Not quite identical to the types of restaurants in this thread, but definitely worth a mention.

What about Shoulak's restaurant in Snook? They've got that chicken fried bacon thing going on there. Anyone eatin' there before?
