I recently saw a program on either the Discovery Channel or Animal Planet talking about exotic animals living wild in Texas. Gemsbok released in the White Sands area of New Mexico have increased so much in number that they have spread east into west Texas. There are now more blackbuck antelope living in Texas than their native India. Axis deer or Chital, also native to India, are also doing well. Not to mention countless other mammals and birds. Have any of you guys while out in the wild lands/the country seen any of the wild invaders?

I have a related story, but not about deer or antelope. In Clear Lake, SE of Houston, occasionally you will see a small flock of green parrots. I have even seen them at the Kemah Wal-Mart. Just googled and found this story:

Wow! Interesting article. I've heard monk parakeets can be some noisy little guys.

Reports are that there are 7,000 Bengal Tigers living in Texas, more than still exist in India.

I certainly hope that I never encounter one in the wild!

There are a ton of Nilgai living in South Texas.

Exotics have been introduced to Texas for close to 100 years...

Oh and there's plenty of parrots and parakeets living in and around Brownsville, Texas.

I don't know about the Blackbucks, but Axis deer and feral hogs are both absolute pests. My sister can go out in the morning (subdivision between Austin and San Marcos) to get her newspaper, and see any number (sometimes up to 50 or so at once) of the Axis.

Axis are the best eating of all the native or non-native North American wild hooved animals. Exotics abound in Texas.

I was wondering if the Axis deer out compete the native Whitetails?
