Default hotel recommendations for South Padre Island?

I am planning a trip to South Padre Island in late May and wondering if anyone has any hotel recommendations. I was looking at Isla Grand ($309/night for 2 BR condo), which looks good online, but sometimes things are different in person.

Also, any restaurant recommendations are appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I was last there in the summer of '09 but we rented a beach house. All the restuarants we ate at (and it was quite a few because we stayed for 9 days) were pretty good.

Thanks!

I got hotel reservations at the Hilton. Restaurant recommendations I've received so far have been Dirty Al's and Louies Backyard.

Some other restaurant that i would recommend

Blackbeards
Daddy's
Sea Ranch (highly rated)
Pirates Landing (Port Isabel)
Marchans (Port Isabel). This one is a locals place. Good food at better prices than the tourist places.

Thanks gguerra...I'll check those out!

Someone also suggested that there may some good deals on guest houses on the bay side (Port Isabel). Although I have other reservations at this time, I will keep it in mind for my next visit.

I think that when you hear "Bay Side" it is on South Padre but on the opposite side as the "Gulf Side".. It is an island that runs north and south. The east side faces the gulf (waves) and on the west is the bay side (calmer waters) and usually more economical.

There are several bay side restaurants with large decks of tables overlooking the Bay. They make great places to sit, drink and watch the sunset, and occasionally see a dolphin surface. The bay is pretty shallow most of the way out to the Intercoastal Waterway, so you will see wade fisherman way out away from shore and not a lot of boats on the bay.
