Brownsville or McAllen with children?
Which place would you choose to move to with very young children? Of course, I would want to be in the best school district possible, but still have some fun things to do close by, convenient shopping (Target) and some restaurants...and feel that my family is in a safe place. THanks for any input.

i like mcallen. contrary to many people who post here, it's not a bad town. there are lots and lots of places to shop, and it seems like a much larger city than it really is. you have to remember that mcallen runs into pharr, edinburg, and mission. i.e., one side of the street is mcallen/the other side is pharr/edinburg/ mission. there are several targets, walmarts. also steinmart, tuesday morning, hobby lobby, bed, bath&beyond, burlington, etc. so don't be discouraged by all the negative posters here. i swore i wasn't even gonna post here again, due to all the endlessly negative posters.

McAllen is a great district. Brownsville is garbage. Harlingen is good also. Probably the best place to live in the Valley.

If you like endless big box stores and the suburban life and no character, pick, McAllen.
If you like history, the zoo, the beach pick Brownsville.

Better yet.....Bayview. Just kidding, but it's beautiful out there.
RGV, I have an old movie that was shot in the early 1920s that shows the Rio Grande Valley...you see people on horseback downtown Brownsville. It's real interesting. Also, the video touted Bayview as THE PLACE to live in the Rio Grande Valley. Interesting video. I'll try and upload it to youtube sometime.

I went down to McAllen area with family because we were gonna move down there but i think Sharyland Plantation or McAllen. P.S. were not moing down there because we live in Indiana and we would be to far away from family. But if anyone is gonna move down there it is so beautiful.
