I might be commuting to Dallas from Austin 2-3x per week in the future. I was wondering if there was anyone out there that has ever done this before or is currently doing it right now? If so, could you tell me how your experiences went?

Is this even reasonable?

Also, flying isn't an option.

It's no cake walk, and that's for sure. ~3 hrs. each way on 35 is not my idea of a pleasant drive.

Good luck!

I-35 is a cluster****

You're looking at atleast a 3 1/2 to 4 hour commute each way.

No. Completely unreasonable. If there's no other way, drive down Monday, get a hotel, and drive back Friday.

My neighbor works in Houston, but lives here. He flies down Monday morning and flies home Friday evening. You might have to do something similar.

If flying isn't an option, I think it would be very tedious. But 2-3 times a week? I don't know if that's even possible without going insane.

My husband did it for a few months, not fun. Now that we moved to Austin, his boss comes down a couple of times a week, but that's just to get away from his wife. Usually, he flies down, stays a day or two and goes back, never drives. You're not going to want to go back and forth. You'll want to do meetings/appointments 2 -3 days in a row and stay the night. The gas money and extra toll on your car isn't worth it. You should move if it's literally back and forth 2-3 times a week.

In the next year or two, there's going to be some serious reconstruction on I-35 passing through Temple. It's not going to be pretty.

Nope, nope, nope. Life is too short to endure that kind of misery.

I wouldn't want to do it now, but I did a similar commute in CA (San Diego to various parts of LA/Santa Barbara) for 3 years when I first got out of College. Being in your car for 6 to 7 hours per day gets old pretty quickly, but people can do it. If it's a great opportunity where you'll make lots of money and it's your only real option, then you have to do some things that are unreasonable at some points in your life. If there are other options then I would definitely investigate those. I'm definitely glad that I don't have (choose) to work 12 to 14 hour days anymore which is what you end up doing if you include your driving time.
