Unhappy Oil boom

My husband has been working in the Pecos area for over a year now 14 days on the oil rig and 14 days home. He's now been promotes to a normal schedule but has to be there permanently to accept the position. So my 15 mo old and I will be moving out to the Midland/Odessa area to join him asap. All apartments have waiting lists with no rhyme or reason, we approved for a home but its ridiculous what they want for a home built in the 50's and to rent a home its a waste of money...Grrr its just really frustrating me. We are leaning toward having a new home built and betenbough homes has a 6 mo wait for the area just north of the airport. Their floorplans are reasonable sq footage for the price and they don't look like cookie cutter homes. Is this a good area of Odessa around Rainbow and 91st? Has anyone heard of Betenbough Homes? Negative or positive any comments welcome. Also wondering if anyone knows about Andrews and if there are aptments or houses for rent there? We're gonna need somewhere to squat til our house is ready, HELp I don't wanna live in a tent city!!

Consider that it may likely not be that long-term nor as permanent as it may appear.

While you may consider rent a waste of money, even worse is the loss and time that may be required to sell.

Sounds like Midland/Odessa to me.

They can't built apartments and houses fast enough. People are living in Hotels and RVs. My best advice right now is buy a really nice 1ton truck and 5th wheel trailer with 2-3 pop outs. Then either buy a piece of land for a future house build and live in the RV until it's finished or stay in an RV park until you find a place. As for Andrews, the housing crunch is felt at least 50-75 miles radius of Midland/Odessa and Andrews is a much smaller area. So you best bet is Midland/Odessa.

The vicinity of Rainbow and 91st is good neighborhood. But really, with so many people moving in most neighborhoods are kinda unstable right now. I know of few people who are living in "bad" neighborhoods because that is the only place that they find a house.

Betenbough is also in Lubbock. I think their HQ is here. I'd be very careful. I was not particularly impressed with their homes, but there's a lot of that in Texas, so let the buyer beware. Instead of just looking in Midland/Odessa, you might consider some of the small towns around that area like Lamesa, Big Spring, rent there until your house could be build in Midland/Odessa.

Big Spring would add 40 miles making their/his commute 130 miles. Lamesa would add 59 miles making their/his commute 140 miles. Midland is only a 90 mile commute and Odessa is a 70 mile commute.

These numbers are one way only. So Odessa makes better sense followed by Midland. Monahans is another option but I wouldn't wish that off on my wife and kids. Midland/Odessa has more going on in terms of schools and things for the wife and kids to do. We got a race track, 3 shopping malls, 3 movie theaters, 2 Theaters (plays), and countless kid friendly places like Chunky Cheese and MrGetti's etc.
