The only reason I'd pick Lubbock is because of Buddy Holly. Other than that, perhaps Galveston because of its proximity to the Gulf...

Earlier I was in a hurry to post, so I would like to expand a bit on why I think Midland is such a good pick.

But first, yeah I think Corpus Christi is an excellent pick too.

Now back to Midland. Among the minor cities of Texas, Midland has the absolute best skyline for a city of its size. Hell, it's good for a city 3x its size. The buildings in the CBD are a good barometer of a city's health. For a city to have a well developed downtown it must have good economic infrastructure in place. If it doesn't then downtown will not develop well. Most of the minor cities in Texas have no real skyline to speak of, but Midland stands out in this regard which makes me think that it has the best potential to become a major city. Odessa will be Midlands largest and most important suburb.

Odessa isn't a suburb.

I agree that the Waco area will become very big and connected one day but it's in the area with all the other big cities. A lot of people who move there left the big city and wanted to stay near by or they are military personal. I love the area but the other cities mention are pretty much in there own little world and have become prosperous on what little they got. Almost all of Eastern New Mexico, West Texas, and West Oklahoma use Lubbock as the shopping Hub, distribution Hub, flights, and hospitals. Lubbocks metro is only 300,000 but everybody around them for hundreds and hundreds of miles have to go there. Midland- Odessa are more the boom/ bust type. Right now the two cities have the #1&#2 most available jobs/ high paying jobs in small cities in the country. I guess you can go ahead and count Corpus as major ( It even has its own thread on the Texas forums) I do see big things for all these Texas cities

I'll forgive you for not putting Fort Worth in the title (which has BEEN a major city) and just say Corpus.

It just needs that push...

McAllen at 728k population already major compared to those others, and is probably growing the fastest (along with Midland/Odessa). Behind that I'd say Lubbock.

4 Possible Answers:

1.Brownsville-Harlingen-McAllen-SPI

2.Corpus Christi
3.Killeen-Temple-Belton
4.Waco

Lubbock, Amarillo, and Midland-Odessa just seem to be to far out in the middle of nowhere.
