Word. And don't forget the Robert Earl Keen, either. While driving and not blinking thru Luckenbach.

I'll second 87 and 377 through Leakey as well as 2222 from Austin to Lake Travis. 71 from Bee Caves to Llano is also pretty. I 10 from San Antone to Kerrville is nice, but if you've made the commute a few times, it loses its appeal. 12 from San Marcos to Drippin is pretty too. Heart of Devils backbone there. Hamilton Pool road (3238, 962) all the way to Round mountain (281) also takes you through some beautiful country. I'd love to get out west though and see the real hills. I'm definetly taking some time next summer to check out the Big Bend area.

I also like the some of the three-lane windy roads of the north Dallas suburbs.
I also forgot to mention S.H. 289, better known as Preston Road. I love the sights as I drive north towards Plano. It truly is a nice road to cruise on and I enjoy it.

Question for Texans: How do y'all pronounce that name I bolded? I pronounce the "L" and say the "a" as in cat. Someone told me that us Texans pronounce it wrong, that it's "Yahno" and the "a" is like in "stall". I'm sure that's the original and correct Spanish pronunciation.

I can tell you with confidence it's pronounced LAN-oh. The Spanish pronunciation for most things around there is nil. You are north of the line of demarcation so to speak, as far as pronunciations and sentiments go.

It's like El Dorado -- in Houston we pronounce it El Do-RAH-doh (Blvd.), they say it the same way in San Antonio, but in that particular town it's El Do-RAY-doh.

Salado also comes to mind.

Man, I feel like I can go on. I really do like driving on the President George Bush Turnpike too! Speaking of which, now that Bush purchased a house in Dallas, he can have the satisfaction of driving a highway with his name on it.

North Dallas is truly a wonderland in my mind filled with wonderful drives, including streets, highways, and service roads.

Actually, he can have the satisfaction of driving a highway with his Dad's name on it.

It's named after George HW, not his son. It began construction in the late 1980s/early 90s (President George Bush Turnpike - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). I lived north of Dallas when they first started building it, and remember after a while when George W became Governor of TX, they added "President" at the beginning of the name to differentiate. However, their fix was very shortsighted!

ricwil is on a distinguished road
Hwy 337, Medina to Camp Wood, the best IMHO. Hwy 1431 out west of Austin, Hwy 281 north out of San Antonio, and Hwy 16 from Bandera all the way north all are especially scenic.

I will share my favorite North Texas roads too. Hwy 4 from Santo to Graford, Hwy 67 from Glen Rose to/from Stephenville, Hwy 16 from Desdemona to Graham w/ a side trip to PK Lake penninsula, Hwy 677 from Forestburg to Saint Jo then on Hwy 2382 to Bulcher, Hwy 902 from Collinsville to Gainsville, Hwy 175 from Larue to Jacksonville then Hwy 69 thru Rusk down to Alto, Hwy 287 from Corsicana to Palestine and any road around Palestine, Hwy 22 from Whitney to Hamilton, Hwy 219 from Clifton to Cransfield Gap, then going north and take Hwy 216 to Iredell.
Thanks for reviving this thread.
