As a parent of a 19 year old I support Texas law! However, most restaurant managers feel they are above the law and have the right to refuse to serve the parent if they suspect the parent will serve their child! How does a corporate policy supercede a state law?

Any establishment may refuse service to anyone except for the 'protected' categories. They can even partially refuse service - i.e., refuse to serve you alcohol while serving you food. This is not 'above' the law, but quite within the law. The restaurant may not be able to verify that you are the legal guardian so may chose not to run afoul of some pretty dire consequences if they are wrong.

**** the puritan law brought over in the mayflower. It should be 18 all across the country. I remember being in europe and laughing at 16 yr olds having a beer next to me, wild

I hate to compare America to Europe, but in Europe we have the drinking age at 18 across the board and we don't get that many extra problems, it just makes uni/college life a bit more enjoyable. Also this whole thing about drink driving at 18 vs 21, is a bit bull**** I think. We learn to drive at 17/18 and have even less driving experience than american teens and there isn't enough drinking and driving problems to cause the law to be changed. It's all about the govt. providing information. Anytime there's alcohol involved there's a bunch of warnings about drinking and driving and that all it takes really..

As a licensed alcohol server, I would not sell to someone who was going to hand the drink to a minor. It's my choice whether or not I sell to anyone, and that is not worth the risk to me.

I agree. I think the sight of a minor drinking alcohol in public sets a bad precedent.
