Hey, don't forget about the Alamo City! This is a tourist destination for a reason! It's the cheapest major city in Texas, too, which should be noted. I also absolutely love the adjacent Hill Country for outdoors activities and scenery. San Antonio rocks!

I'm just looking for opinions. I know posts like these don't always go over well. What does Houston offer for a young professional versus Dallas? Also compare cost of living and things to do.

Thanks

In Dallas' opinion, Houston is an uncouth cultureless wasteland with absolutely no redeeming qualities. Your residence there will be an unrelenting descent into boredom and deprivation.

In actual practice, both major metros offer a similar set of attractions, with a low cost of living, and a much to do as you want. They are roughly comparable in size and in attractiveness within the US. Both metros are between 6 and 7 millions in population, and are the 4th and 5th largest metros in the United States.
