No, not really. I'm talking about eastern Tarrant commuting into Denton, Collin, Rockwall or Dallas counties, and inferring their relationship as a suburb of those counties.

One interesting factoid about the figures is that it now seems that half of the people of Texas live in just two cities (metropolitan areas) either DFW or Houston.

I'd then wonder what percentage of the land area those two metros occupy.

Probably the entire population of the United States could fit into Texas at the same density of DFW or Houston.

Ok, assume Texas has 250,000 square miles. At a density of 3,500 people per square mile, that comes out to 875 million people. So we could fit almost 3 countries the size of the United States into the land area of Texas and still live our low density lifestyle.

If DFW and Houston combined have 12 1/2 million people, and a density of 3500 per square mile, that means they occupy 3,570 square miles between them. Since Texas has 250,000 square miles, that means half of the Texans live on 1.4% of the land. The other half live on 98.6% of the land.

You are right. They predicted that the Houston metro in 10 years would bust through all the way up to #6 by 2015. 4 years later (2011) we are at #5. Houston, and other Texas cities: exceeding all estimates and never looking back!

Its interesting that with two other large Metros (SA and Austin) And 6 Middle sized areas with populations near the 400K to 1M range ( El Paso, McAllen, Corpus, Brownsville, Killeen, Beaumont) that two metros would still have half the State's population
