Sorry to hear that. That's why I said check into the specific area. What about neaby Reklaw (Walker spelled backwards) or Sacul (Lucas spelled backwards). Yep that's the names of the towns. Both near Cushing. Sacul is even smaller than Cushing though. If your husband works out of Texarkana, why not something much closer. Cushing is a long way from Texakana.

He is just based out of Texarkana, working for SRT. I don't think that he will ever being going through there very much. Right now he is in CA then will be in WA don't know what is after that.
We called our landlord who has kids in Cushing and he said that you can opt out of corporal punishment if you choose. He said that his kids love it there and are doing real well in school. They are originally from Modesto CA and he was afraid that they wouldn't fit in. It was nice to hear that he was happy with the school. Maybe the code of conduct book is just a guideline and they don't have to follow it to a tee, fingers crossed. I know that my son is going to be on the defensive when we get there thanks to his experiences here. I have been talking to him about the school there and have read to him part of the handbooks, what they require of his behavior and conduct. Hopefully we will be prepared for school by the time we get there.
Thank you so much for your help and support during all of my questions. I greatly appreciate it!

You are quite welcome. Yep, the same as in Tyler. At the beginning of the school year a form is sent to the parents and you can opt out of the paddling in school thing. It is up to the parents. Good luck, Bill.

Harassment Has Got To Go
For starters, I am truly sorry your son has been subjected to that. Schools are for education - not an experiment in emotional mine fields! The school failed you and should refund your school taxes. However that being said - speaking from experience I grew up in Kountze, TX - near Beaumont and was treated horrifically. Harassed, emotionally battered, verbally abused. What is even worse - the so called teachers and minders did nada. The principal - who should NEVER have been a principal stood back and watched! I hope and pray your son will have no lasting scars. He is young enough - the slate could well be wiped clean. According to the Texas School Board - harassment is illegal and punishable. To what degree depends upon the school. However - if that happens at Cushing or whever you live - make haste to the school board members, president and whomever else. You are certainly in my prayers!

There is no "Texas School Board" as such. There is the TASB or Texas Association of School Boards which is the association group for individual School Board Districts in Texas. Corporal punishment is up to the individual districts.

cheryljane...Thanks for the prayers, we need all the help we can get! I have looked into the Cushing school extensively (sp). They seem to be a real good school and our landlords are from CA and they have had no problems at all. They said the school has you sign a paper that says if you want your child spanked or not.
I finally got the pics of the place today, nothing like last minute is there, HA! The property is wonderful but the house looks like the person really like the single wides from the '60s. The whole house is paneling and the yard, well no yard but a nice fence to keep my dogs in. There is a ton of shade for my horses but I don't know if I can get them there now.
Anyway we leave in four days, fingers crossed that we find a horse trailer in time. Every thing else here is all settled and I only have what we are using to pack.
So Cushing here we come!!

Hey it is getting real close! Paneling is something that can be taken down and you can paint. Now I had a friend paint over hers, it wasn't bad. Have fun decorating.

That is what I keep telling myself, "it can be fixed" hahaha. We lived in a lil farm house. about 750 square feet, and sometimes it was 6 of us. We had to get real creative with the sleeping arrangements and I had to clean the sand from the toilet water lines about every two weeks. BUT, the property was a great 12 acres with the pasture being 8 acres of no rocks and the grass was as high as our colt was at the time.
This lil place in Cushing has some nice property and I think that the horses will be happy. The yard, no grass, has a nice fence so my lil dogs can run around with out having to be tied up. Plus, the ppl there are already worth the trip. I can deal with the house it is just very different than this double wide that we are in now. There is enough area to ride my horses and stay close to the house.
Is it true that there are no ground squirrles in TX? I hope so! We have moles here and they are as bad as goffers and the ground squirrles.

We have squirrels here but they live in the trees, they are always climbing them. I do see them quite a bit coming out and on the ground. My back yard has a couple of them always playing in my trees. Maybe there is a organization that you can get in touch with that can tell you about the wildlife to expect. I think there are some govermental agencies out there just for that. I hope that helps some.
