OMG.... hide the kids and bring in Fido the Pit Bull. You'd think a pack of rabid wolves was on the attack.
lol Thats funny. Coyotes are everywhere in the part of California where I'm originally from so I've encountered them many times. It was the moutain lions that I didnt like. We had alot of them too.

Ki-oh-tee when talkin' with my gringo family, Koh-yoh-teh when speaking with my Latino family.

Have never used ki-oat, nor do I ever hear it outside of movies!

However, I have heard a lot of people use kii-oat. My job takes me all over the state, and I hear it more in west Texas than anywhere else. It is a mix in my native Texas Hill Country, and I hardly ever hear it in north or east Texas. You are not alone, but I don't think it is as prevalant as you hope.
LOL Thanks dieEich...you did!

Anyway, I hope nobody thinks I am serious with my earlier whiney and animated tantrum posts!

I was just kidding around. Now, I DO admit the results of this poll truly DID surprise me; I wouldn't have thought the results would be so clearly one-sided. BUT...perhaps it IS because I live in a small city and the oldest high school in town (my alma mater), has the "coyote" mascot -- and I always heard it pronounced that way around here -- that maybe it IS me who is isolated in this regard! LOL

Oh well, I love the comments and good discussion! Have a good evening, fellow Texans!

Adding something here. It's a beautiful clear night here in the Big D, so I'm out on my patio reading City Data. Well, y'all Texans know that when we have nights like this, sound travels. I've been saying Coyote outloud for about 5 minutes, trying to figure out how I say it. I wonder if my neighbors are ready to call someone to take me away in a padded truck?

I think we can all relate to this. I can't believe how many times I've listened to myself say coyote in the last few days.
