I've never eaten coon or known anyone who did. It must be an East Texas thang.

Not necessarily just East Texas. I just commented a handful of posts ago in this thread that I know someone who grew up in Colleyville which is in Tarrant County close to Fort Worth who hunted coons back when that area was just country.

I'd have to eat mine in a Coon Coney fashon. Somewhat like a hot dog.

No I am the friend Hoosier was talking about and I very much eat coon! And so does my family, major food group here!

We baked coon with sweet potatoes, carrots, and white potatoes in a big magnalite roaster. I never really cared for it too much (nor squirrel). I've eaten a lot of squirrel! I loved hunting the little rodents and have had them fried (young ones only for this method), fried and smothered in gravy, and with dumplings. My grandfather and aunt (she has a PhD) required us to leave the head on when dressing them ... they liked the brain.
On the coon, I see them as only a small bear with similar habits but downsized. They are omniviores. Clean animals (don't eat carrion). Many folks up north eat bear (which will eat carrion).
Saw on the Food Network the other night the host of one of the shows eat armadillo on the half shell! Hmmmmm ... he said it tastes like ... chicken!
I've eaten plenty of frog, tons of crawfish, most kinds of fish (including gar balls ... gar filet rolled up and baked), squirrel and coon. Never had possum, diller, or snake (wanna try the snake though, not the others).

I was thinking about cooking me up some pomegranate chestnut coon stew or some coon spinach tortellini soup tomorrow... I can't decide. If y'all are nice, maybe I'll save you some.

Having said this your warning was not needed ... unless your are the resident internet PC police. Well, are you?

I am not the internet police and your OPINION on my post is not needed. I KNOW the person who started the post, he is a kind, christian and would NEVER wish to hurt someones feelings, being from another part of the country, he could not be aware of the old usage of this word.
Sorry but I try to be sensetive to racial slurs, unfortunately many in Texas are not so sensetive.
I am not a christian but the "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" is found in many cultures and this world would be a better place if it was heeded alot more.

Make my coon wood-broiled. I'll bring my special-recipe barbecue sauce.
