The United States Census Bureau has compiled it's list of top 10 wealthiest states and the state of Texas was absent from this list . Does this in any way dampen Texas spirit as being one of the most dominate state in the United States of America.

Not at all. Look at Hawaii with around 61,000. Living in Hawaii is ungodly expensive. If I were looking at the same job in Hawaii and Texas, I'd surely hope that the job paid better in Hawaii!

I dont care about lists like this which are designed to sell publications not worth reading. Wealth is subjective....its not just income or net worth, its buying power if you insist on the financial focus... but freedom from too much gov and wide open space are important to me as is how far my financial assets go in terms of making my life less stressfilled and comfortable. Texas is number 1 for me with my value system...I dont really care of other value systems differ.

I am very familiar with Va/Md from working up there for 6 months or so and with NJ (NYC suburbs) from living there... Not my cup of tea.....

Here's a list that gives median incomes by state and Texas is not the poorest, but not the wealthiest either.

Median U.S. Household Income by State - US News and World Report

You can also see the distribution by Texas county here:

Texas Counties: Median Household Income

Brazoria $64,242
Fort Bend $76,758
Harris $50,437

I suspect that the rural counties though balance that out by being quite low.

Brooks $26,027
Hudspeth $26,993
Zavala $22,948

Both of them are useless
what really matters for the middle class (most americans) is cost of living and quality of education.

San Jose and San Francisco are the two cities with the highest median income in the US

I always believed that the upper income area's would pull up the medium income level just far enough to place Texas in the top ten wealthiest states listing.

Texas still has enough time to narrow the income gap between it's top and bottom earning regions and shoot for the top ten ranking in the future.

I don't know why anyone would expect to see Texas on a "10 wealthiest" list!! We are always high on the list for highest % of children on Medicaid, very high percentage of public school children receiving free/reduced lunch based on income levels, etc. In Dallas county alone, I believe about 20% or more of population is under poverty level. Same in Houston and Ft Worth and much, much higher than that down in the Valley.

wealth is subjective and COL is a almighty break it or make it factor in a person satisfaction with his current location in the USA.
