Default relocating to Big Spring

Hello all: I anticipate relocating to Big Spring (working at the VA Med Cntr). Are there any good (low/no crime) areas to live by the VA Med Center? Any additional advice about the area? Thank you.

Default Hi!

My dh works at a hospital in BIg Spring (not the VA) but we live in Midland mainly for the services for the children. Dh doesn't mind the commute (about 45 miles --straight interstate and no traffic) but he can sleep over in the hospital if he has to work late/early. We did tour Big Spring and there is a nice area on the hill or do you call it a butte? anyway it's one of the higher points there and not far from the VAMC-sorry I don't know the name of the subdivision but I know you will find it if you head toward the hill/butte. He finds the people in Big Spring to be very friendly.

Good Luck! I'm sure the VA really needs you!!

Pam

Ha, I was also offered a job at the VA in Big Spring! Was looking at the Kentwood area neighborhood and was very nice, not far from the VA.

Jacodi, Romeo2, and Lilypad: Have you relocated to Big Spring? Where did you decide to live? I am planning on relocating to Big Spring and would appreciate an update. Thanks.

Yall are crazy! lol Me and my family are doing everything we can to get out of this town. Its used to be a nice place we loved but now its all gangs and drugs. If you want to work here I would suggest living in Coahoma, Forsan, Stanton or Midland. Also the schools for younger kids are really good but our High School doesnt even meet academic standards and is working to get there. I would recommend not to move here I sure would give anything not to be here, and will do anything I can to get out of here before my child starts school.

do not move to big spring and do not work the VAMC here. this is the place where all of the VAMC nightmare stories are originating from; if it goes wrong it will here and the patients recieve to worst care I've ever seen. This is the only place that I work that I really feel my license is on the line and I am so ashamed to be associated with this facility and this town is absolutly one of the filthiest and ugliest places I have worked. I realize now that I never should have been chasing the money and have chased a quality of life instead; I see why they offer special pay rate at this VAMC. I must work with an agency to keep my skills up and to know that I have the ability to work outside of the VA system; after 11 years of a career I would give it up tomorrow to get out of this town and facility. Unfortunitly my transfer was denied and I am not able to just quit at this time.
