Houston is great in this regard. Can't comment on Dallas.

Houston has lots of nightclub districts with great walk ability within each.

They're pretty similar. Dallas has more upscale meat markets while Houston's scene is more for fun and low key. Houston has some really quaint bars such as Warren's, La Carafe, Under the Volcano, Leon's, and new places like Snake and Mongoose. One pesky thing I remember about some parts of Dallas was the ridiculous requirement of having to purchase a membership to drink alcohol, but that was mostly at restaurants. Must have been a Bible Belt thing...

Interesting a place in the new design district required it last year.

Dallas may have slightly better walkablity in its bar districts like Uptown, Cedar Springs, Lower Greenville, Deep Ellum, etc.

Per capita, Houston probably has the most bars, but it doesn't really have "districts" per se since there is no zoning in the city. They are spread out all over the place.

That no-zoning stuff kills everything.
