Can anyone share their thoughts on the small town ?
I've looked at homes online and it seems pretty cool. I am looking at both Idaho and Texas. Depends where my son goes to college. Thanks.

I grew up in a nearby town....what do you want to know? For retirement? Work? Kids? Hobbies? Interest?

Llano like most of Texas will be very hot during the summer. The granite in the area heats things up even more and so it is actually a little hotter there compared to other Hill Country towns. There is a hospital, but I never here anybody say good things about it. They are building a new hospital near Marble Falls (Hwys 281 & 71) and Fredericksburg has an excellent hospital for its size. Couple of good lakes nearby and whitetail deer hunting is big business in the area. Several very good BBQ places in town.

I drive through it a few times a year, and it's one of my favorite small towns in the state. It's not the most striking part of the Hill Country, but there are some beautiful views all over. It has some good barbecue, and it has a nice historic downtown.

Would really be interested in the "feel" of the town. We are looking to possibly move to Texas if my son goes to college at Texas A&M. I can transfer with my job to most places in Texas. I was thinking of Lubbock as well as this area. I like small town living.

Does your son plan on staying in local area in Idaho or Texas after he graduates from Texas A&M or the other school in Idaho? If not or (as I suspect) he wouldn't know, moving (just to be near him or 4 years) would be unwise. Hopefully when you decide on any move, it will be for yourself personally and/or financially.

On another front with college kids, sometimes extended familiar separation can be a good, growing experience for both parents and children. But, by all means, do not take my comments as trying to single out your thread. On the city-data Texas board, I have noticed a few Boomer parents not willing (or emotionally unable) to temporarily part with their children after high school. After college, you wouldn't want a child to feel he had to stay for his family vs. career prospects.

Well, I wouldn't consider Lubbock "small town living" in the same sense as Llano, as Llano has a population of around 3,200 and Lubbock has 234,000. Maybe one of the smaller towns around Lubbock? I have a friend I visit in Llano. It's lovely, but they almost completely ran out of water last summer. I don't know what their situation with water is at this point, but you might want to look into that.

Neither Llano nor Lubbock are close to College Station. So, if you are moving to be closer to your son in college, those aren't particularly good choices...
