FIrst of all, wondering how new berlin texas came up? But don't mind telling you about it. My great grand parents came from germany and, with a group of other german immigrants (some of their last names include warnicke and pape) settled in central texas and gave the name "new berlin" to their new home. I believe new berlin was the first german settlement in texas. My grandfather was born there and met my grandmother there and so my dad was eventually born there. Today, new berlin is still a quiet little hill country town. There is not much there (school, small stores - is is basically a farming community and many of the old homesteads still exist - I recently went back there and drove around to see some of the sites, including my grandparent's farm etc.), but it is very close to San Antonio and relatively close to Austin (which everyone should know IS the absolute center of the universe!). The people who live in New Berlin today are some of the old-timers and the younger crowd are basically people who like country living and commute to the city (S.A.) for work.

Have a great day!

New Berlin, Texas. My daughters family were some of the founders of New Berlin, Texas. Her great grandfather helped build the old homes that are still standing as well as the Elm Creek Lutheren Church. Most of her family is buried at the Church cemetary. The family ranch as well as the original home is still standing. The family name is Stahl. Her great grandparents were Julius Eugene and Hedwig Stahl.
