TexReb,

You don't see my point of view, so I'm not going to keep trying to get you to.

You think that extreme racism doesn't exist and I do.

As far as flamboyant gay people go, I don't think they intentionally act flamboyant just to "disgust" you. Richard Simmons is flamboyant and I don't think he can help it. That's just the way he is. He doesn't do for the purpose of offending people...it's just his personality. If someone disgusts you (people who don't shower disgust me) you just have to live and let live. I can't make people shower and you can't change people's personalities.

Unfortunately, I don't think a news article or link to what happened to that family exists. It's a small isolated town and the police were involved in the threats. If you don't believe that story there are more just like it I bet you can find. Online news articlesto about what happened at the church in Knoxville are easy to Google.

I would hardly say that is typical though, would anybody? Nuts span the spectrum!

I don't consider myself liberal by the way. Though I do tend to vote democrat. All the true left-wingers that I know say that I'm a bit conservative (probably due to my strong belief in Christianity. Which I believe, btw, that you can be a democrat and a Christian at the same time).
Also, I'll probably edit my profile soon to reflect the most recent changes in my life, lol.

It's the extreme, yes. But it shows that hatred and homophobia exist...which..you asked for an example, and I gave you one that you could access. Not all racists or homophobes will kill, but that doesn't mean that racists and homophobes don't exist. Not all Muslims will fly planes into American buildings, but that doesn't mean that Muslims who quietly have an extreme hatred for America don't exist.

Ok, no prob. Just curious. Where do you teach? I recently resigned after 15 years, and have been in many positions and witnessed how this profession of ours degenerated from the most rewarding into the most stressful and using. I would not advise any young person to get in to teaching (public school teaching, that is), today.

Anyway, I enjoyed reading your post. But you might want to update the profile! LOL

Yes, I DO see your point of view. However, as is typical, you don't seem to see mine. Or anyone else's that goes against your own.

Uhhhh, what makes you think something so silly as this?. Of COURSE "extreme racism" exists. It always has and always will. But IS IT the mainstream of life today? No way at all. Unfortunately, some peoples existence (sometimes even power and money) depends on making SURE it exists.

Oh lord, spare me. Richard Simmons is an act, and I get as big a kick out of the act as anyone. He is harmless as a clown at a Barnum and Bailey circus. So, please don't deflect. Which is exactly what you are doing. The flamboyant homosexuals who make a point to parade their disgusting bodies and lifestyle in public parades have nothing in common at all with a Richard Simmons, who is a nice and amusing and funny and does lots of good things for people and the public. If he is gay? Well, he doesnt make a big point of it.

Do you want to trade horror stories? Do you honestly think there are not "hate crimes" committed against white, straights, etc? Like was said earlier, nuts and hateful people exist all across the board. Right?

Define "racist". Define a "homophobe".

To be honest, it's definitely not what I see myself doing in the distant future. There's just so much nonsense in public education right now and the teacher is not even put into an environment where they can teach.

Nothing in your previous post indicated present day or recent history. There are still people alive when the national KKK office was located in Dallas. Those attitudes may have gone underground but I'm sure they still exist in the area.

Interesting stuff: Judeo

1958! That was only 55 years ago. During my lifetime.

Quote:
In 1958, Gerald L.K. Smith made the following remarks in the September issue of The Cross and the Flag,
The Rev. Carey Daniel, Pastor of the First Baptist Church at West Dallas, Texas released a significant list of courageous preachers whose names were attached to a petition addressed to the White Citizens Councils of Dallas and committed to the following expression: ‘I believe that enforced integration is wrong, and I am opposed to the mixing of white and Negro children in our public schools.’

“In publishing the petition, which appeared in the Dallas Morning News, Sunday, May 18, 1958, Rev. Daniel had this to say: ‘This list is being open because of the large number of Dallas clergymen who have not yet been contacted.’

“The petition also contained the following words, which appeared above the signatures of the clergymen: ‘We urge that our Dallas City Council and Board of Education abide by the laws of the sovereign State of Texas which forbid school integration without local option. We urge our newspapers and radio and television stations to refrain from doing or saying anything that might in any wayencourage the racial amalgamation and increased juvenile delinquency which nearly always follows the integration of schools.”

This petition was signed by 330 ministers in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area of Texas and it was printed in the Dallas Morning News (Were none of these ministers - real Christians?) I have in my files the name of every minister who signed the petition. And this was from only Dallas/Ft. Worth. Nationwide there were thousands!
This Hate Map is interesting. Hate Map | Southern Poverty Law Center It says there are 62 hate groups in Texas many of them are in NE Texas. All those white triangles with eyes, those are KKK hoods.

Believe me, I know what you mean. That is the reason I finally just decided to take the plunge and resign and not be a part of a system that sets kids up for failure, but hold a teacher responsible for the failure. It is hard to give up something like this if you care about kids, but at the same time, if one has the insight to see what is being done to them by the very insane demands of the job itself? And then to finally realize that you (teacher) is only a redundant component to be tossed under the bus when the right time comes?. Well, then I guess that is when one has to struggle with their own concience...or the importance of a regular paycheck... And that is often not easy...

But anyway, that is getting OT. Let me mention though, if you want to talk/discuss it a bit more privately and professionally? Then please feel free to DM me. Again, I am very much empathetic to all you say!
