When I am in San Antonio (or the local mall for that matter!) I am very aware that I am a minority. It's an interesting feeling.
We live in White man's country and white men rule the land. Your race issues are far between and isolated. What us blacks face is on different level and can't anyone tell me I'm being paranoid and far-fetched. This country still suffers from the aftermath of slavery and jim crow era.

You can be in Little Mexico America and still have more power! You have White privilege. The American system is designed to keep minorities complacent and down.

And save the "go back to Africa" cowardly anonymously reps that I'm sure someone will send.

Not at all. I understand.

The ol' "white man is keeping us down" excuse. Another favorite of mine. And yet "the American system" that is "designed to keep minorities complacent and down" elected a black president twice.

You're right in the sense that racism is alive and well in the US. And some people just WILL NOT let it die.

Truth is you would have no idea nor would anyone who is white.

Don't judge until you walk a mile in someone else's shoes.

And nobody who is black knows what its like to be white so they shouldnt judge either. That logic cuts both ways. Also I could certainly share some personal stories about being jumped and beaten by blacks for being white and being turned away for certain things because I'm "not Hispanic" but I dont cry about it and carry a huge chip on my shoulder. If anything society caters more to minorities now with things like affirmative action for example. And whites are automatically labeled as being racist. So we all have certain racial issues that we have to deal with.

As Two4damoney said, the logic does cut both ways.

We're all painted with the same brush, and all whites are automatically deemed to be racist.

Right on.

When I was in elementary school and junior high back in the early seventies, for some reason totally unknown to me, a group of AA girls, who each outweighed me by probably forty pounds, decided to torment me on a daily basis. They called me names, walked behind me pushing me and pulling my long hair, yelling obscenities at me, every single day - to the bus and back, in the halls, in the dressing room at PE, you name it.

This was when integration was a new concept and busing had just started. I came from a very color blind family and honestly to this day have no idea what it was about me that set these girls off - maybe they could just sense my fear of them. They made every day of my life at school miserable. Some of my most unpleasant memories are of PE, where we played dodgeball at least once a week. These girls made me their target, and would throw that ball at me so hard that it left bruises.

I didn't want to "tell on them" so I put up with their bullying for years. They called me every name for "white girl" anyone could think of. They would trip me in the halls and in class, trash my locker, steal from my desk, you name it. Several times they ganged up on me and threw me to the floor, kicking and hitting me. Coming from a family and environment where violence simply didn't play a part, I was horrified by this, and of course could not defend myself physically against a gang of girls who seemed to delight in fighting.

Their bullying wasn't limited to me - they raised hell all over campus for years. I have no idea why this was allowed - everyone knew about it. Anyway, eventually I moved and never experienced that sort of thing again. I guess it was just a case of "mean girls' in that adolescent stage between 10 and 14 - when girls are particularly horrible.

I don't hold a grudge against AA women just because a few AA girls back in the day were idiots toward me. But I really don't like being told that I don't know what racism feels like just because I'm white. I've experienced verbal and physical attacks on a daily basis just because I am white. Don't tell me I don't know what a racist attack feels like.
