My last meal would be the enchilada plate from the Keno in Weslaco (RGV) -- cheese enchiladas (with onions, of course, but covered in chili), real french fries (big ones), big soft yeasty dinner rolls, diet coke, coconut pie for dessert. And for later, a Whataburger with no cheese, no mayo, but everything else. And one to go, to take with me in case they don't have them in Heaven. Although I can't imagine a Texas Heaven without Whataburgers.

Any of y'all remember them? I sure do. My grandmother used to make them for us. She was one who had a green thumb and used to chill those home-grown 'maters and not only did I grow up eating them cold, sliced and salted, but she would make us kids sandwiches which had the same on them, along with real butter!
DAD GUM...I want one of them thangs right now!

I love butter and tomato sandwiches, but only with homegrown "maters" I haven't tasted a decent supermarket tomato in thirty years or more...

Cheese Enchiladas, Beans and Rice, Tamale, Shredded Beef Tacos, Rice Milk. I wont have to worry about the heart burn, since it is a last meal. Desert fried Ice Cream.

Oh boy ... haven't thought about Keno's in years! Lived in Weslaco from 82 to 86 ... yep, would be hard to beat. Or the Batana Plater down in Pharr at the Roundup .... but I've heard it shut down shortly after I left ... for health violations But I sure did like it. Been in Tex-Mex and BBQ (central TX style, as in the City Market in Luling) withdrawal the whole 22 years I've been in SC.

That's not TexMex. I don't know what you call it in California except just mexican but even the mexican is a different style than mexican in Texas. I don't like the CA version.

TexasReb, I love tomato sandwiches, too! But I put mayo on it, not butter.
Seattle, the hothouse tomatoes are usually good. See if your supermarket sells those.

Chicken Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn on the cobb, mac and cheese, coleslaw, green beans, refried beans, ham, bbq, diet dr. pepper (I'm diabetic), texas tea, blue bell ice cream.
maybe some enchilladas, tortillas and queso, chimichangas, flautas for a tex-mex taste.

I'm so glad we brought back this thread. So much so that I'm seriously thinking about adding one or two more items to my last meal's menu to tempt even the most forgotten of all my taste buds.................
But I won't.

TexasReb...on my way to San Antonio...I stopped for a drink (non-alcoholic of course, lol) in Hillsboro, where the 35s connect...I saw some guys truck with a bumper sticker that read..."This Reb Shoots Yankees Dead", I couldn't help but thinking of your handle...and hoping that person was just an overzealous Red Sox fan, lol!
