Ever been to Dallas?

Awesome! Texas has it's flaws like everywhere else, but geez, it sure is a COOL state!

Quite a few times, in fact. I only live about 100 miles from it.

Lemme tell y'all a good story about a trip to the "metroplex" some years back. Some of you all have heard it, but for those who haven't I am going to tell it:

I was in the DFW on some kinda business and checked into a motel. The clerk was an older black lady who took my information and we got to sharing small talk and all, about her growing up in south Dallas and etc. Anyway, she finally said something like: You must be from Texas too

Well, yeah, I was thinking. I mean, weren't we in Texas? Why would that fact be particularly noteworthy?

So I responded, yes I was, but what made her think so?

I never will forget it. She just smiled back and said "Cos, baby, you don't sound like you are from around here!"

I had to crack up!

It's nice to see some mention of Texas' black musicians.

Can't forget the great gospel music:

#27. What is that crap? With all the great artists in Texas, you used this as an example of art?
The Menil Collection happens to be one of the most praised and world-renowned art exhibits in the South. I'm not sure what your beef with it is.

#40. There ain't no hip-hop in Texas! Period!
Those weren't the best examples used, but, yes, good hip-hop does exist in Texas.

Kolaches were mentioned. I love those desserts. The dessert actually comes from the Czech Republic. Makes sense because alot of immigrants from Czech Republic settled in Texas. In fact, there is a town in Texas called West, which has one of the largest Czech populations in the USA(by percentage), and it's called "Kolache capital of Texas".
