The Alamo Drafthouse is coming to the valley this Fall of 2007. They could of given it to El Paso which is the 5th largest metro, but they decided on building a brand new Alamo Drafthouse which had never been done before here in the Mcallen-Edinburg-Mission MSA, Texas with V.I.P. seating.

THE ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE unique combination of movie theatre and restaurant, the Alamo will show the best of first run and independent films on six state of the art screens, and offers an extensive menu of fresh handmade dishes, mixed drinks, wine and beer (the beer selection will be the largest on tap in the Rio Grande Valley!).
In addition to offering this fun, comfortable full service environment, the Alamo is recognized worldwide for its eclectic programming, award winning food and one of a kind special events!
The many awards include:
“Best Theatre in the Nation” by ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY
“13th best thing to do in Texas” by TEXAS MONTHLY
“Best Theatre in Austin” by AUSTIN CHRONICLE
“Best Theatre in San Antonio” by SAN ANTONIO CURRENT
“Best Theatre in Houston” by HOUSTON CHRONICLE

Thanks Bubble, neat place!
I've been coming back to the valley the past 20+ years and each time it never changed, always seemed to be about 10 years behind the times. I remember when the Olive Garden came to Harlingen, and that was a big deal. Sure looks like the valley is playing catch-up!

Mcallen Outlet Malls
Outlet malls making a big difference - 10/29/2007
(McAllen-Edinburg-Mission (broken link): Retail) (broken link)(Mercedes) - In one year, sales tax receipts have increased by $2 million and property values have jumped by $100 million. Both increases are a result of one new business enterprise: the Rio Grande Valley Premium Outlets shopping center, which opened in October 2006. Construction is underway for the shopping center's Phase II, bringing the number of stores to 140, according to Michele Rothstein, senior vice president of marketing for Chelsea. The expansion should be completed by spring 2008.

Simon did a good job on this development. They are building one in northwest Houston, in Fairfield. I believe it's based on the same design as this one and the other new one in Round Rock.

We in Austin have been enjoying the Alamo Draft House for over 10 years. You'll hopefully love it. It's a great place to watch movies and have dinner with a few beers.
The owners are also proponents of giving back to the community. All in all, great Texans and a great venue.
In Austin, they are renovating the State Theater on Congress. We are very excited.
