Yes. The Beverly Hills location has closed as well. I'm not sure if they've closed any others at this point.

This is very true. First of all, the customer experience at NM is unmatched by the competitors. You practically get a personal shopper at NM and the variety of options are greater.

Both Saks and Barney's are closing stores all over the country so the fact that the Dallas locations closed isn't a shocker considering the presence NM has here having the original flagship and the top producing location as well as two other locations. Neiman's isn't just a department store in Dallas, this is it's hometown and generations of people are very loyal to it after decades of being raised in the environment of Neiman's being such a huge part of Dallas culture. NM really shaped the fashion scene in the area and people see it as the go to luxury dept store as their parents and grandparents did. Any department store coming to Dallas will have a tough time because of the brand NM has in this area and the number of stores.

I do think Bloomingdale's coming back to Dallas would actually do well since it tends to target a younger demographic. I have heard rumors of its return and we shall see if that comes into fruition.

While Houston does still have a Saks and a NM, you have to keep in mind that there is only one Saks and one NM and actually one Nordstrom for the entire metro so there is less competition and Houston doesn't have the same culture and loyalty built around NM like you see in Dallas. So, having a NM and Saks down there makes more sense.

Houston use to have to 2 NM but one closed due to bad location in the T&C Mall. Houston use to be completely loyal to Sakowitz, but after the main post oak store closed in 1990, they have really been loyal to the Neiman Marcus and the store is one of the top performers in the nation. Saks is making a big investment by building a new Saks in the Galleria, even after opening up a new bar in their current store.

Here are a couple clips of Métiers d'Art:

Bombay-2011/2012

Edinburgh-2012/2013

London-2007/2008

Karl Lagerfeld, head designer for House of Chanel and House of Fendi as well as his own boutique, was largely influenced to choose Dallas due to Neiman Marcus. While the Europeans were mocking her new work, Neiman Marcus embraced it and later bestowed Coco the "Award for Distinguished Service in the Field of Fashion." Similarly, other global cities were chosen in part due to Coco's ties within that city…including Paris, London, Moscow, Edinburgh, Bombay, and Shanghai.

This is absolutely fantastic news for Dallas' businesses, tax revenue, and fashion importance.
