I'm not so sure you can "nationalize" (in Mexico) a car yet without paying big bucks. If he really wants the car, you are better off selling it to him in the US and he can deal with nationalizing it but its mostly farm trucks and utility vans that cross - I think importing first started with just trucks. Cars that have a VIN that starts with 1,2,3, 4 or 5 are also allowable now. They have to be 10 years or older. I tried searching for an English site for more info but couldnt find one but if your friend speaks Spanish, he can check out some basics at this business website = Agencia Aduanal Ramon Guerra Ayala (Agente Aduanal) (broken link) The times that friends have nationalized a truck, its been about $400 - $500 (depends on Make & age of vehicle) and there is a 72 hour wait at the Customs import lot.
