3 to 5 years ago, although a lot of the time I actually had an apt on Galveston. Before and after I spent a lot of time in motels in League City and Webster .

The things in Houston that seem to be the most popular to out of towners is NASA, the Galleria, and Lakewood Church.

S.A. is a good place to kick back and relax for the weekend. Luckily, it's close to Houston because we need to see other places once in a while.
The only reason to visit Austin is to look at the State Capitol and see government in action without going all the way to D.C.
DFW is just a carbon copy of Houston. What can you do there that you can't do here besides the shops we don't have? Frankly I'd rather go to Oak St., Wilshire Blvd., or Manhattan to see Barney's. I really need to get out-of-state more often.

San Antonio.
You can experience the Tejano, German, and Anglo cultures in the metropoilitan area.
You can experience the "true" Texas.
The Institute of Texas Cultures will also help you to understand how our current Texan culture came about.
Houston and Dallas are more "newer" cities. The skyline in Houston and Dallas look much more modern than San Antonio's old skyline.
Skylines set the tone of cities.

That's only because the old skyline of Houston is hidden behind the newer skyline.

Man..if a tourist's idea of "fun" is seeing Lakewood Church in Houston, I surely pity them....
Despite the fantasy of many Houstonians that Houston is just so much fun with so many, many things to offer...well, it just is not so. The Houston Chamber of Commerce and Convention Bureaus barely can keep that expensive convention center busy enough to pay for keeping the lights on. What a waste that was, but you couldn't convince a Houstonian of that.

TootsieWootsie I disagree. Houston has a lot to offer. What hurts Houston is how spread out all the attractions are. Galveston to one side, the Galleria in the Middle, downtown away from the Galleria, NASA kind of on the way to Galveston, and all the cool neighborhoods sporadically spread out. And it has nothing to offer that separates itself from other areas its size. But it still has just as much to offer. Restaurants, museums etc.

As another poster has mentioned... there is too much to do/see/enjoy here to even list... (horse races, car races, The Dallas Cowboys, Rangers, the ultimate shopper's paradise, and yes, Southfork, etc.)... just being here... all in a CLEAN zoned environment!
