I went to public schools in Abilene, with some of them pretty women. Tho' some say it's about Abilene, Kansas. I've done some hanging out around Marble Arch Station.

And an uncle, mid-90's by now, tells of playin fiddle, in the days of his you, with Bob Wills. Down around Kosse, Tx.

Love all of those. One of my favorite songs is "Luckenbach, Texas". I also love "Houston" by The Gatlin Brothers...

1. Yellow Rose of Texas
2. Waltz across Texas
3. Texas, Our Texas
4. Dixie (the Texas boy's version which goes "shall this boasting, mad, invader, trample Texas and degrade her? By our father's proud example, Southern soil they shall not trample...To arms, to arms, in Texas.." Bet y'all didn't know that existed, didja? LOL)

6. Eyes of Texas
7. Bob Wills is Still the King
8. San Antonio Rose
9. Hillbilly Rock
10. Remember the Alamo

Y'alls turn...
I would add only 2 to that list, both by Marty Robbins:

Ballad of the Alamo
El Paso

I once read an extensive article on Southern Culture which had many "maps" indicating where "the South" is by various criteria, and one of them was the popularity of of country music. The map in question had each state "sized" based on the number of times it was mentioned in country music lyrics. Texas was first, but Tennessee was a VERY close second (I thought of this when I saw "All My Ex's Live in Texas", by George Strait! LOL). Louisiana was third and, surprisingly (or so I thought) California was ranked up there fairly high...

*grinning* The northeast states were almost non-existent on the "map." Yeah, I can hear the lyrics now, "All my ex's live in Jersey...."

Hey, Willys, I'm willing to bet that it's supposed to be Abilene, Texas. There's nothing really romantic or traditional if it's about Kansas, now is it?

Everyone's mentioned my songs already but here are some anyway:

1. San Antonio Stroll, Tanya Tucker
2. Texas When I Die, Tanya Tucker
3. God Blessed Texas, Little Texas
4. Deep in the Heart of Texas, Bob Wills
5. El Paso, Marty Robbins
6. Has Fort Worth Ever Crossed Your Mind, George Strait
7. Texas in 1860, Pat Greene & Radney Foster

What's this Hillbilly Rock that someone mentioned?
