Default in-law apartments?

thinking of relocating to texas, possibly austin or houston. there is a good chance my grandparents will coming also. just wondering if there are homes down there with in-law apartments? i have not seen any online so far. we are also considering to build a home if we cannot find one with an in-law apartment. could you stear me in the right direction of home builders/new developments. thanks!!

They aren't common in older homes, but people have added rooms above their garages in cases where it is needed, or for a game room. Some newer custom builders are starting to build "mother-in-law suites" above the garage, or better yet, on the ground level replacing the master down (instead putting it upstairs). Some have space for a small fridge or kitchenette built in, some have their own entrance to the outside.

The best part about the addition is the versatility. Not everyone has in-laws, but how nice for a guest suite or for older kids attending college...I think it's a great idea!
