I saw that in the Lufkin Daily News. I read it online most days for the obits to see if I'm in them.

After the military service, and as a newly wed, I spent a few months at the Lufkin Industries machine shop. I started on a slab mill, then to a drill press and then to a bore mill. I've been up and close to Lufkin pumping units. I see a lot of them out here especially around Post, Texas.

I don't recall reading what G.E. planned to do with the business? Do you know?

Okay, it looks like G.E. is just continuing their push into the energy sector. Here's the reason for the purchase:

GE Buys Lufkin for $3.3 Billion as Immelt Adds to Energy - Bloomberg

I wonder if all those pump jacks around in Texas will be re-tagged "G.E."?

Well, that's good! Changing all the signs to General Electric Texas would be expensive and be hard for the Red Necks to spell.

Cheers

Their greatest difficulty would be trying to change signs on moving pump jacks. Most of them around Lubbock are pumping like heck nowadays. The explosion in Texas oil production is probably one of primary reasons G.E. thought Lufkin Industries was worth the purchase.

At least I won't have to throw my Lufkin ball cap away. Most people around here think the Lufkin patch on the cap stands for the Lufkin Tool Company that builds the tape measures.
