I was wondering what it taste like and seen that Sweetwater has a big rattlesnake round-up each year. They cook them many different ways and you can try eating them there. I'm looking forward to this when I can move to Texas, but wanted to know from thoes who have tried it or been to the round-up what it is like?

Have had rattlesnake chili (or at least that is what they told me it was). Can't say I could really taste anything different from the goat chili, deer chili, or the other mystery meat chilis .

I thought the title of this thread was Country song. In any case it's very melodious.

If you have seen the movie "Auntie Mame" there is a very humorous incident involving pickled rattlesnake.

Is this what upstaters eat? I'd rather stay in Houston and have gourmet food.

I would guess most any white meat tastes like chicken. Alligator is good, so is rabbit, but I've never taken a chance with rattlesnake.

Snake tastes like chicken, but tougher.

Not if you soak it in buttermilk for 12 hours. I fried mine similiar to a Chicken Fried Steak. It was ok -its like any game meat in that its all about the spices.

I've eaten rattlesnake just once. Six dollars in Amarillo for an appetizer of fried rattlesnake at the Big Texan. It's a different texture, but there just isn't much meat on those critters. You aren't really missing too much.

Why would you want to eat it except to be able to say you did so. I'm sorry, eating snake, ooh, doesn't even sound right. Course, as they say, if you haven't tried it, don't knock it. I could just never get past the visual picture, but more power to those who can. Just creepy, thinking about it, to me.

The one good thing to come out of these rattlesnake hunts, such as the one at Sweetwater, helps to eliminate a few more of the nasty critters!
