Hello everyone,
I heard that the politicians in Austin are considering reducing the number of tests required to graduate.I think I read in Texas Monthly that Perry was against the reduction but I am not sure.If the bill gets to his desk, do yall think it will get vetoed?I am trying to find this out for my sister who is a sophomore.I searched the forums but I did not find my answer.Sorry and thanks in advance.

I seriously doubt it. I say this as a teacher of 14 years experience who finally resigned in total disgust.

Testing is big business and big money for all concerned (everyone except the teachers, who are cannon-fodder) and no way will it do anything but expand.

Oh sure, *airy gesture* it might be packaged and presented and paraded out under another name (as has been the case over the years), but it will never go away. Again, too much money being made by all kinds of special interests and politicicans and too many cosmetic bureaucratic jobs at stake.

WT? This is one that I truly wish wasn't true, but it is. Don't take my word for it. Ask any teacher for sure. Even a politician and/or beaurcrat or employee of the testing industry...if they can speak off the record. Because if they don't, their own jobs are in jeparody.

But then? Hell, it is the nature of the beast. No one should have expected a different outcome eventually when all got initiated by Ross Perot back in the 80's. The inevitable result (with no end in sight) is more government involvement and continual expansion.

What would be so funny if not so pathetic and sad? Is that some legislators declined the opportunity to take the very same test they mandate for school kids. They knew damn well they couldn't pass it.

Then again, flipping back, why be surprised? Legislative bodies of whatever level routinely exempt themselves from the very same demands they impose on the peons....
