Sheri Kent or ANYONE!HELP!re:Port Lavaca
Hi. I'm searching your very helpful forum but find NOTHING concerning Port Lavaca, TX. Found your thread about being familiar with the coastal areas, Sheri...........ANY info from ANYONE about ANYTHING concerning P.L. would be helpful, please! Cost of living, housing, general ages of community.....are we talking families here or party people??!! Are we talking trailer-city or mansions??!! No...I promise I'm not being "snobby"...honest! Just will have to be there for a while and have NO knowledge of the place other than a few photos and little info on the net. Looks like a quiet little place? Am I wrong there? Are there any modern fascilities...such as medical advancements, nightclubs? Gee, I know they have a Wal-mart...other than that...I don't know much else at all about it...how IS the shopping there BTW?? The beaches there- are they mostly for partying or fishing? I come frome a rather small, quiet town where generally they keep out the "adult scene", so I do enjoy the family-oriented enviorments, but it's nice to "let your hair down" once in a while- have a cold one and dance! So, all-in-all, I'm a pretty average "joe-ette"!!! Sheri...ANYONE... can ya help me out with all and any info? THANKS SO MUCH!

Hi Shelly, Wow, Port Lavaca, A very quiet town however comming up to the 21 century... does have a WalMart, and fishing is the biggest thing going, mostly a retired haven and a great place to catch big waves. Inland you have Victoria for the excitment, depending what you really want, Rockport is nice, small and about 25 mi from Corpus Crhisti also Port Aransas which is a great place to do all of the things you want from beach to great food and let your hair down as well, you have to take the ferry to get there, sunset dolphin watch and sky rides the back porch is located right on the water a cabana bar to sit and watch the fishing and sailboats come in for the day. a great place to live as well. my sister lives in Rockport and is a nurse ,commutes to C.C. visit my web site @ URL removed...hope this helps

Thanks so much, Sheri!
Call me crazy, but a ferry boat sounds so fun to me! I've never taken one before.....well, except at Disneyland! ....Anyway, so, we're talking a retirement community?....OK , I can deal with that. I have a couple of friends who will be joining me eventually, so, perhaps as we explore around that area, we'll find the right place to settle in. Also, I could actually enjoy relaxing and watching the ships sail in....sounds nice.
Can you tell me, in P.L. itself, are there any modern shopping stores (other than Wal-mart?) ...If not- hey - there's always the net, huh?!
As for housing costs, I would imagine things are not too expensive there? I have been through the Victoria community, but bypassed Corpus Christi.
I was so glad to see a reply from you on my post, thanx so much again. I'd gladly visit your website but- as you can see- the url was removed. (Guess that's not allowed on here?) Perhaps you could just type out the words in "plain format" and I'll figure it out from there.?! (Worth a try!)
Once again, your reply was very much appreciated!!

HI Shelly [moderator CUT] I lived in the area for 23 years and still have the sand between my toes if only in thought. This past weeekend Port Aransas had the annual sand fest where sandcastle builders come from all over the world to compete in the event. try the Port Aransas Chamber of Commerce web site as well as Rockport they will have all the years enents and yes Rockport has a Walmart Super store. the two towns are 13 miles apart and Corpus is 18mi. in the other direction. Hope this helps

port Lvaca
Hi Shelly, sorry hun there is nothing here but Wal-mart. the nearest things like nite clubs etc... is in Victoria, about 28 miles away. Our beaches are very clean, but no partying like you meantioned. This town is very small, quite, and family orentated community. Cost of living is average, gas is $2.70 a gal. If you like to fish this is the place to be.

The Cape
Hey Shelly,
I saw your post but it's a little old so if your still looking for info on retirement communities near Port Lavaca, try Cape Carancahua. A gated community near Port Lavaca. We bought property there and in Rockport. Being from California, I was blown away by the price of waterfront properties.

Hello,
I recently visited the Port Lavaca area and it's surroundings. Does anyone know what is going on in the Alamo Beach area? I see there has been some work going on, i.e roadwork and a large space has been cleared of tress and shrubs. Is going to look anything like Magnolia Beach?
Thank you
John
