Houston winning definitely hurts North Texas' chances. I don't think the NFL will want to go to Texas back to back. Lets face it; a state has only been awarded back to back superbowls twice. And Texas is no California or Florida in the rest of the world's eyes. After the bad job that North Texas did the last time, I don't think they deserve another shot this soon to be honest. They'll be going head to head with New Orleans and others. Slim chance.
I would think LA would have a better shot than Vegas.
The committee was basically throwing 2016 at LA but they were not interested in upgrading the stadium.

I also think that SD and NOLA could both win bids even if they lost their teams

The ice definitely hurt. It would not have been all that bad if it was just snow. It made the spreadout nature of the north Texas super bowl look bad. AFC team in fw, NFC team in Irving, media in downtown Dallas, some media in grapevine, etc. etc. Made it hard to cover and see everything driving across the region. The sb was suppose to show off the cities of north Texas, and I guess it worked? They are going to have to really centralize it next time. Maybe cut off fort worth and the suburbs (outside of Arlington where only the game would be). But it ain't going down like that.

It does sound like the committee thought that North Texas did a good job. Basically they blamed it all on a fluke of weather.

I think that North Texas can put in a good bid, but you are right, they need to cut out the spread.

Just to play Devil's Advocated...

What would prevent Austin from hosting the Super Bowl? It has a very nice 100,000 seat stadium, with plenty of suites and the godzillatron. It is a warm weather city that has hosted large events before. It doesnt necessarily have mass transit but as close as the stadium is to downtown Austin (and 6th street), that isnt really as necessary. Imagine the press and the CBS/NBC/ABC pre-game set setup infront of the Capitol.

Comments anyone?

Chances are, we wont sniff the Super Bowl for at least another two years after Houston.

It's kind hard to predict that with everything that went down, but one thing's for sure, it's NOT the weather that will be an issue for the NFL and SB committee.

North Texas got a real bad break on the weather for it's first SB a couple years ago, but I don't think that's the biggest problem they have re a potential repeat SB game. With it involving basically 2 cities (Dallas & FtWorth), the city of Dallas is just gonna have to come to grips with the fact that the game is in Tarrant County where Cowboys stadium is and therefor the game is primarily a FtWorth-Arlington event, not a Dallas event. When both cites try to be actively involved/represented in the pre-game SB activities, it just spreads things out too much. Other large metro areas that have had SBs like ATL and Houston are anchored by a single city, but not so with the "Metroplex", as it 's a 2-city metro area and they compete with each other for top billing during SB week and that ends up diluting the overall experience.
