That is probably the most common component to fail, although I don't think ours was clicking. Yours might be set up a bit different and be the capacitor, still.

Probably a compressor motor out. Sorry.

A capacitor holds an electric charge. It is a fundamental unit of an electrical circuit.

I think the OP was referring to the fan switch. If you hear a clicking it means that the switch is probably working.

If the fan is not blowing then it can be several things, most likely the motor that drives the fan has gone out.

From my notes:

2. Fan motor is out.
a. Touch the fan motor and see if it is hot. A lot of heat means it is out.
b. Get a multimeter or voltmeter and see if current is flowing to the connections.
c. If either A or B, then shut off the power to the unit, pull the motor off.
d. Call a local A/C parts shop and see if they have the model.
e. Replace fan motor.

If you are not comfortable with the process, then call one of the A/C repair firms. The labor will run you $100-$200, and parts about the same, but they can fix it.

Doubtful as it is the fan is not working.

The outside unit has both the compressor, which is the device sitting in one corner inside the outside unit, and the fan, which drives air over the coils.

The clicking sound is the switch driving both coming on.

Our capacitor went out some years ago and was a $25 fix. As I understand it (possibly incorrect, definitely layman, and also blurred by time), the capacitor allows the starter to have a larger charge fire up the compressor, then once the compressor is engaged, the higher charge is no longer needed. If the capacitor fails, then the compressor cannot start even though it might be perfectly functional. The clicking could be the starter trying to engage the compressor w/o enough 'oomf' to actually get it going. If the compressor does not run (and therefore there are no hot gasses to cool), then the outside fan will also not run since it is not needed.

The guy that came to fix ours had a capacitor in his truck. He ran into so many failed capacitors that he carried a supply for various models. His biggest problem was the mounting brackets did not match, but he worked around that and it has been running fine for 4 or 5 years now .
