Default Considering a move to E.TX (Tyler, Lindale, etc)

I grew up in Tyler and still have relatives there. I will be completing air conditioning tech at a local college here in Wichita, KS then working there for 6-12 months then trying to convince my finacee to move to the Tyler area. Any suggestions on where I could get a job at an company with my degree? My finacee has two degrees: BA in graphic design and MA in fine arts and works on a web design team for the city of Wichita. Any suggestions for her? I need to find a way to convince her that Tyler is a great town to live in....thank you!

She has been to Tyler once...didn't have much time to check it out espically with a 1 month old baby wailing all the time and my mother thinking we didn't feed our son enough or didn't feed him baby food when really he didn't like his sleeping schedule changed. He's much better now at 7 and half months old now.

Let me see if I can post a pic from Photo bucket of our son in his Piglet Halloween costume from a few days ago.

A good example of Jen's work.

She was able to use her graphic art work experience to merge our pic with the fireworks for our NYE card.

Thumbs up Tyler

I live in Lufkin, 90 miles from Tyler. I think it would be a great place to live. It is growing big time as is Lufkin. There should be alot of opportunity there. I have good friends/business associates who live right outside of Tyler.

Linda

I actually moved to Lufkin from East Texas after having a phone interview when I was living in West Texas. I hated West Texas. Problem was I am hearing impaired to the point I communicate mostly thru American Sign Language and spoken English and have to use the relay service that is sponsored by the government to place calls that way. I was hired after the phone interview and moved there with a friend who already lived there. I was warned that it was nearly impossible for deaf people to get jobs in that area. The day I was expected to show up for my first day, I was wearing office wear (nice shirt, slacks, etc), when I knocked on the office door. Was admitted and then there was an expression of utter shock on the face of the office manager/owner when he found out I was deaf. He said he thought I was some guy from India or some such country because I had used the relay system to call him and that since I was willing to take lower pay (I was already aware that sometimes pay is lower in East Texas so was willing to deal with that because I just wanted to be closer to family members in Tyler) but since I was Anglo, he decided not to hire me. He called the cops to escort me off the premises. When I protested, the cops acted like I was retarded and gestured "Arrest? Want Arrest?" by signing the slapping on of the bracelets. I decided to gracefully leave the premises. I applied at any and every job that was available out there. I have been to four different colleges but not graduated from any of them due to the colleges not having what I was looking for in a major. I was not hired because I was told that I was overqualified and when I got reports of other job openings then I was likely to jump ship. That was really stupid of people to assume that so after 1 year of trying to find a job, I relocated to Austin where I found a job within a month. About 3 or 5 years later, I moved to Wichita, KS, where I'm at now. I work part time at the city library because I also have to take care of my 7 month old son otherwise I would be either full time working or going to school which is what I'm hoping to do in January. I plan to specialize in a/c and heat technology with construction a close second.
