Agreed, dallasboi makes it seem like busses are a bad thing. They may not be as fancy as rail but in a city with 6 million people and over twice the size of Dallas, we can't afford to build light rail all the way out to the suburbs. Hopefully Houston will have some commuter rail in the next decade to help change that.

no...its simple guys...Dallas has a smaller bus fleet because we dont NEED a bigger one. ALOT of people WHO DO use public transportation(we all know MOST people in Texas DRIVE)choose to park and ride which 9 times of 10 DO NOT require them to board a bus...which causes us to not need as many. And since that's the case why not cater to the nucleus of your system..and add or subtract "buses" as needed?

No, the nucleus of the system is bus. Like it or not, more people still use buses than light rail and commuter rail combined. A city can have a good rail and bus system. Like you said, it would give people more options.

no again.....the DART LTR system's MAIN HUB is downtown which is the center of Dallas county. All of the lines pan out like a spider ...AND...since our bus system is NOW designed to feed our train stations...that makes our train system the nucleus of transit in Dallas.

Good God this is simple. Houston has WAY more poor people than Dallas. Poor people love buses. Hence, Houston has more buses.

No, there are bus transfer stations in downtown dallas too. And no, the bus system is not designed to feed into train stations. Only 500s are, and they only make up a small part in the number of routes. There are many routes of buses that pan out into dallas too.

The fact that the ridership is doing bad, many bus stops look terrible, and it needs to get people to more places, the places that rail can't go to.

I agree, except on the poor people statement. Doesn't Houston have per capita income?

Well as they say " You can drag a horse to water..but you can't make him drink"...people love their cars..You can't MAKE them ride the bus...which is another reason why we don't need as many buses as we already have....people are not riding them.

Maybe the horse would drink the water if it was clean.
I know a lot of people that want to take the bus, but don't because it makes their commute even longer. They say the same thing about light rail too.
