What is the procedure if you are a TX resident with TX registered vehicles with TX plates and you move to a different TX county in the same metro area? Do you have to go back to the county tax office and register again, or can you renew when the current registration is due for renewal in the new county, or is there some other procedure?

When your registration is up for renewal, take the notice to the county office where you want to register, pay the appropriate fees for that county. Done

You can do the change of address for your registration on the form they send, or online. Once your new regis sticker is on the window you're done. So, try it online when you get your renewal.

Edit... Go here... do this....

There's a link to change your address. Texas online is really good with helpful links and processes.

One item to watch for, the regis sticker has a designation for your county, or area. At one time my car was registered for Dallas. I moved to Bell county (on I-35 near Austin). When I went for my inspection renewal the guy said he couldn't do it because my car was registered in Dallas, which required the exhaust emissions test. I had done the change of address and had my new window sticker in hand. I pointed out that I had recently moved to the new county and wanted him to put in both the inpsect and regis stickers at the same time. Non-metro counties do not 'all' require the emissions test.
