i'm a US citizen but i grew up in england and after i finish university i want to go back to the US in about 6 years time from now

and i would like a town that

has a population of about 2000 approximately
is rural with lots of local grown healthy, fresh and cheap food
lots of horses around
a town where everyone knows eachother
maybe like a town square or something
reasonable cost of living
about 30 mins to a larger town/city with many types of business admin jobs available
but i want to be able to see just lots of empty land or fields or farmland for a while until i reach the next town/city

i would ideally like a town that isn't segregated or just white, i'm white but i would ideally like a town with a significant african american population, but yeh i would ideally people of different races to be friends and not against interracial relationships

i know that might be asking for too much, but please try to suggest the closest thing

thanks

Just find a job and then worry about the rest at that time

Im kind of thinkin that areas that are about half an hour away from a big city wont be all that rural but hey that's just me or if they are the growth will eventually swallow that area.

It takes me 40 minutes to drive to Lubbock on farm-to-market roads.

Of course Lubbock is probably only considered to be a big town to most people.

Texas, while the most urbanized state in the U.S. also has the most small towns as well.

Let me suggest that you obtain a Texas state map and look through all of the towns with their populations and we can eliminate them for you as we know of them. Right now it is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

As has been pointed out, many of these small towns will be gobbled up by larger towns or cities as they branch out. But Marfa, Texas might be one that would appeal to you. It also has some significant tourist sites nearby and most significant is that it is an area of low humidity. McDonald Observatory is not far away either. I don't know the racial make-up. However, it probably wouldn't meet your needs so far as driving distance to somewhere to find work.

As I said, it would have to be a process of elimination.

Whenever this subject has been broached in the past, there was a consensus opinion that Sanderson, TX fit the bill for "best small town." I still cast my vote for Sanderson.

I wasn't comparing to ghost towns! Sanderson is a metropolis compared to your choices. Big enough to have a East and West Oak Street, for example - to keep people from getting lost.
