My husband has to drive into the RGV from time to time since he drives a truck. He's not a big fan of Laredo (me either for that matter), but he says he was really surprised by Mcallen. Said he'd like to go back for an actual visit and it has a nice downtown as well. Not being too familiar with cities south other than Corpus and Laredo, he was pleasantly surprised. Said the people were very friendly and he was not concerned about crime.
