DFW Area or Houston for Business IT Career?
Do you know if the DFW Metroplex or Houston area is better for someone who has a career in the business IT software/services side of the house such as product management, project management?
I know that Houston is very dominated by oil and energy companies. DFW seems to be growing rapidly in technology.
Thanks.

At this time I'd pick Houston over DFW if job/career are the deciding factor. Those industries you mention are very, very rich and focused on leveraging technology. It would take an hour to list the mind blowing innovations they've invested in over the past five years. Go to Houston. It's worth it.

Houston is now less than half oil/energy industry (the rest is tech, medical, banking, hospitality, etc). But all of these industries have tech jobs available. I'd just look for jobs in both cities and see where you get the better offer.

If quality of life and career were deciding factors, where do you think is the better place?
Weather wise, I know Houston is really humid and can be hard to take.

Yes, but Houston lacks the ice storms in winter and weeks of 100+ degree summer temps Dallas is prone to.
So they balance out on weather IMO.

Ice storm (s) ? Now I know there are such occurences in the North Texas area but plural is an exaggeration. One, maybe two, a year for a day at a time is nothing to worry anyone about.
As for the heat, anytime it gets over 95, it's hot and it doesn't matter whether it's the heat or the humidity that's causing it, as so many tend to qualify it.
I'd pick DFW for the quality of life and Houston for the opportunties today. You'll have to decide which is more important.

LOL!! Spook, so true. Ice storms, now that is funny. Maybe one or two a year is more appropriate. And for a day not the days on end that you see happening in other parts of the country.
I'd have to go w/ D/FW over Houston for quality of life also.
As far as the job situation, there was a very good article recently in the Dallas Morning News about the jobs here and the growth. I should say the future looks very bright around here .

Can you elaborate as to what you mean by that DFW would offer better quality of life? And by that, do you mean better traffic, culture (performing and visual arts) or ??
Thanks!

Let's just say that my interests are much better accomodated in the DFW area than they're in Houston at this point in my life.
