Planning to move the family down to Texas and I will be working while my wife is a stay at home mom. She will be responsible for driving our children to school and other activities while I'm at work as she does now. She has a complete loss of vision in her left eye since childhood(from trauma) but has a driver's license here where we live. Looking at form dl-63, DPS, and Texas DMV website it is unclear if she is able to get a similar license in TX.

It seems forms dl-63 only states whether a driver can benefit from wearing glasses or other corrective measures. Yet, there is a box to check regarding restrictions to only daytime driving. Then there are the confusing visual acuity scores with "one eye" "best eye" "poorest eye" with/without glasses. I called some optometrists in TX but unable to get an optometrist on the phone to clarify form dl-63. Her not being able to get a license would be a deal breaker for the family as public transportation would not be an alternative. We need to figure this out now before we proceed further into planning our move. Thanks!

Call the DPS in Austin and discuss. Best solution for an answer is from the source.
