It's -2 right now. Negative degrees. Luckily, I'm moving to Houston next week! To get me through this 'friendly send off' Kentucky is giving me, I'm thinking of a quick beach trip soonish. I know Galveston isn't somewhere I want to go to lay out and drink an umbrella beverage, so where DO I want to go? I don't want to go all the way to South Padre yet (save that for later). Just somewhere that would be worth an over night trip, maybe 3 hours away? Is there anything worth going to that close? It's just my husband and myself, so we don't need to be entertained, just a beach bar (or close liquor store lol) and a place to put some chairs.

Port Aransas is the best fit for your description, but doesn't impress me at all. The best beaches by far in Texas are South Padre, and even then I would rather drive out to Florida for truly decent beaches. It's not a bad drive over to Pensacola which has some nice spots.

Even Florida is too cold right now to lay out - thanks to the "polar vortex" (formerly known as a norther). Maybe the s/e Caribbean?

Gulfport ... 6 hours, sugar white sands, casinos. Go in May thru Oct.. This time of year either Mexico or the Caribbean. Rio would work too. It was 15 this Am on the upper coast.

I was looking at Corpus Christi! That actually looks like it will fit the bill just fine. I know we can't go yet, but having a plan to go helps a little bit!

If you're going to Corpus, check out Malaquite Beach. There have been several threads about it--I think it's the prettiest beach in Texas. Just no margarita shacks.

Agree w what they said.

It's my favorite beach in texas too. I think it's better than s padre in my opinion. Only downside (or it can be good too) is that it's a secluded park but the park grounds are nice but there isn't some type of beach bar you can hangout at. It's best to take your own beverages and relax.

Otherwise, I'd go with port A. But around this time it will be chilly.
