Default Driving Channelview to Port Arthur, esp the TX-73 Hwy

Is anyone in here crazy enough to do this every day in the morning? How long does this drive take from Channelview starting at 6am?

Ok, if no one is this nuts, can anyone tell me how the TX-73 highway from Winnie to Port Arthur is? Is it a 4 lane divided, 65-70 mph road, or is it a farm road with traffic lights?

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated!!!

Two nice lanes each way, divided by a grass median. Good sholders, too. Nothing between PA and Winnie, though. Speeds are constant 70mph, and little traffic. Again, no gas avilable for 25+ miles. Otherwise a great highway. (I am from PA and live in Winnie, I have driven 73 a million times....)

Wow! That IS a commute. Probably close to 1.5 to 2 hrs one way. No way would I do it every day. You would probably spend at least 1/3 paycheck in gas alone especially if you drive a truck. Good luck if you try.

Actually I did the math on this. The 190 mile, round trip commute would be 9-10% of our income even if I drove a big-block V-8 truck with 12 mpg highway.

But I enjoy driving a big, comfortable car (same length and width as a Tahoe). But it has an aero shape, and a V-6 good for 25 mpg highway. So that's less than 5% of our income.

Now you can see why I'm considering it.

You're welcome. I hope sometime I'll be able to experience living in SoCal for a little while.

In that case, the cost would not be prohibitive (I guess in depends on income). Time expenditure sure would though. I made the commute from my office near Federal Rd and I-10 to Beaumont for a conference for 4 days and that was more than enough for me. The traffic was not bad, just the length. I've done the commute from there to Galveston and it was not near as bad (timewise). It's tough but not undoable. I admire your commitment if you go for it.

I did it for 10 years, and I was working 12hr rotating shifts. Believe it or not, you become accustom to it, its really not so bad.
