*scratches head* no clue...I was born and raised in OR and use it all the time. Can't remember how much I heard it in CA. I thought they used it everywhere. Never even thought about it.
Do people somewhere say "anyway" in that context? . Never would have thought...

another one
When I first moved to Texas ten years ago, my friend helpfully explained that the plural for y'all was all y'all.

Don't people say tacky everywhere?
I've always said it. I was born and raised in San Diego and my parents are from PA and MI.
As for schlepping, that's Yiddish not slang.

Yeah, like your neighbors knocking you up
I got endless ribbing for saying "kick your ass" outside of Texas.

I thought when you took a word form another language and used it in your own like that, it turned into slang? Maybe not.

Really? I'm a little worried about not being able to swear (cuss I guess ), especially in front of the ladies, if I moved to TX, haha. I've been in some situations where I couldn't cuss at all, for certain jobs...it can be rather uncomfortable holding back and I've slipped up a couple times. Up here in the NW, a girl who cusses a bit generally gets two thumbs up. I remember how proud my uncle was when my girl cousins remembered to give an ******* driver the double-bird instead of a single-bird .

Well, it WAS outside of Texas
I would agree that it's generally not accepted to swear in front of kids and ladies. We won't break if something slips out, though. You'll have greater acceptance with younger women, so really try to keep it to a minimum around more mature audiences.
My personal belief is that 'pseudo-profanity' is just as offensive as 'real' profanity, if everyone knows what you meant, so I tend to express frustration in other ways in mixed company. You'll also find that many people feel profanity is the sign of a limited vocabulary, so spice up your conversation to impress.

Where was that?? That is another phrase that I've heard my whole life and never associated with Texas over any other state.
