Moving to a smaller town 10 years ago was a culture shock for me since I came from Ft. Lauderdale FL and NYC before that. In those cities there is more than 1 anything.
In this smaller town "the HEB" meant just that as there's only 1 in town so you can't get lost.
Getting directions in this town:
Where is X ?
It's right past the HEB
Where is HEB ?
It's up the road aways past the post office.
Where is the post office ?
You make a right at the new gas station
The new gas station ?
Yeah..that new one they built right across from the library.
In 10 years I have not forgotten that conversation. I walked away thinking I had just lived through a real life "who's on first ?" comedy routine.

Ahhh....had to look up HEB. I'm assuming it's the grocery store chain? Is that like saying coke instead of soda or pop?

And boy, do I EVER miss it here in NM.
I groveled and begged them to consider a location in El Paso.....no plans to extend this far west at the current time. The Midland-Odessa locations are the farthest west they have gone in TX...!

Fillin' station! Now there's an oldie but a goodie!
I am wondering how many still say "breakfast, dinner, and supper"? Lunch has almost replaced "dinner" as the term for the noonday meal!
