Default moving near San Antonio area

OK, sorry if this has been asked but I am new to this forum.
My husbands company is moving us to Texas. San Antonio area, I understand San Antonio is not the best of areas. Where do you suggest we start looking? What are the price of houses in that area? How are the schools? Thanks for any help.

Ok, I guess I am now more confused. Everything I have read and everyone I have spoken to says, San Antonio is a bad area. Are you saying it is an upscale area? I would like to live in an upscale area.....good school, house and great churches with shopping close. Where is the best area to start looking for houses?

San Antonio is a large city. There are good and bad areas, but overall it's a really cool place. There is hill country on the west side, historical areas, a great unique mixture of German and Spanish culture, and theme parks... all of which bring lots of tourism in from the rest of Texas. Plus, if you like basketball, they've got this really good team, see... playoff series are pretty much an annual thing in that town.

San Antonians are very friendly people, the main pet peeve that most have on our forums is if you talk down about the city. I know you meant no offense when you phrased your original question.

I have a hard time deciding which neighborhood is alright for you, there are plenty of good school districts in the Northside of the city and in the northern suburbs. What price range are you looking for? How far from downtown do you want to live? What type of neighborhood setting are you looking for .. more suburban or more rural?

If you can answer these questions, we will be able to supply a better answer for you that will fit your needs. San Antonio is not that bad at all

Is there another San Antonio in Texas in another county that I have never heard of? lol But in all serious, there are many upscale areas in San Antonio that you'd probably really like.

AnthonySA...please take no offense. I was only stating what I have been told, and I suppose it may have been incorrect.
I am looking for a area with good schools, you see I have a handicapped son which requires good school programs. Now he is in an independent studies program and it is perfect for him. He works from home but checks in once a week with a teacher.
I would prefer rural areas, we live on an acre now in CA and it is nice not to live too close to neighbors and noise. I would like stores to be within 15-25 miles.
I have no idea on the price range of homes, here in CA they are outragous. I hope to get more house and land for the money. That is a nice perk...
Thanks
