fredericksburg
I'm seriously considering relocating to Fredericksburg from Austin and opening up a gift/yarn/?/tourist shop as my second career.
Although it's a small town, the proximity to DFW and Austin help keep the local attitudes more expansive and certainly provides a good influx of $$. The housing prices are right, and with a little elbow grease, I could make an older historic home shine.
One of my worries is that I've become quite spoiled with the big Whole Foods and Central Markets in Austin. Where do people shop for healthy organic veggies? I'm an avid gardener but realistically can't see growing all my own produce and fruit trees take several years to get going.
I'd love to hear thoughts on Fredericksburg from those who know the town well.
Thanks!

I love Fredericksburg. It is a big tourist town too. I recall seeing a couple organic shops in the downtown street mall. Been about a year since I was there last.. so that may of changed. I think you'll love it there.. very green. Its one place I considered moving too.
Fredericksburg Herb Farm -- where heaven and nature sing...
Do a google for Organic shops in Fredericksburg Tx and you'll get many results.

Hi Muhnay,
Actually there is almost nothing that comes up with 'organic shops in fredericksburg, tx' on google.
Yes, The Herb Farm but no groceries, no health food stores, no produce, and no restaurants (other than The Herb Farm). Stuff in Austin shows up and a mail order place in Fredericksburg for organic raised beef.
This is what I was worried about. I'm thinking there MUST be some farmer's markets or something local and unadvertised.
Hmmm

I have a Friend in the area.. When I talk to him next, I will ask. Maybe he will know something.
I am not into organics myself, should be.. but I know its a healthy way to eat and live.
Sorry the advise did not work. I know that they do have a Farmers Market, and I hope that will help you in your needs.
Again good Luck.
Found this will it help?

In your gift shop, be sure to sell plenty of German items and post cards.
Post cards are always hard to find in Fredericksburg for some reason.
You should sell nice post cards from the Hill Country and all over Texas too.

I need to get back to Fredericksburg. Maybe I'll come see your shop when I get there.

I live in Kerrville,Tx...but frequent the "best health food store" in Fredericksburg,TX..called the Peach Basket..they have it all and then some!I found organic polenta, almond cheese, dried fruit, nuts, seeds, coconut oil, MSM lotion, shampoo,Meyer Cleaning products, Elderberry syrup, grains, dairy, fermented vegs...Comfort,Tx has a farmers market (small one, they use pesticides, NO ORGANIC VEGS) what a pity!So we go to Austin,Tx Farmers Market on Sat mornings (my son and daughter in law live there) near the South MoPac Expressway area; a hugh empty stadium parking lot!! I have never seen such beautiful, big veggies , ever!! Also bought a Meyer Lemon tree there!!Also free entertainment, jugglers for the children to enjoy, Raw Honey is also sold there..keep your glass container, bring it back for a fill up and get a discount!!Austin KNOWs how to throw a fantastic "Farmers Market"......too bad its not closer..
